Too Hot

Waiting for things to cool down a bit, it's been in the 90's this week and looks to get close to 100 today and tomorrow.  Needless to say, I'll be staying out of the boatshed for a bit.  I'll take comfort with a few pictures of our recent trip to Acadia with my O'Day daysailer.  The picture below left was taken by my buddy Clifton Mathieu.  Check out his site, he is an amazing photographer.

Had a great time up in Maine, spent the week relaxing on Mt. Desert and sailing around Somes Sound in the daysailer.  I rented a mooring for the week so I didn't have to launch and rig the boat every time (gets old fast).  We managed to get out for a sail every day we were there, I miss the days of a moored boat.

I took a few additional days off after our trip to come back to reality and to hopefully get some work done on the boat.  It was a hot week so spending time at the top of the boatshed in the sun quickly became a low priority, but I did get 2 hours of sanding in.  I had to prep the epoxy from the last core install to get ready for the top skin.  It started well enough and I managed to get about 3/4 of the core ready for top skin before my sander died.  It didn't completely die, but it started losing power and I noticed that the spindle seemed to be loose.  I called up the repair center for Rigid tools and they informed me that it was still under warranty but it would take 2-4 weeks to fix. Bummer.

I wasn't all that sad though because it was soo hot in the boatshed that it felt cool when I stepped outside even though it was 93F.   I was soaked in sweat.  Anyway, I have a lot that I can do while I wait for the sander to be fixed.

My plan is to get the solid glass areas laminated in around the chainplate and lifeline stanchion areas where there is no core.  Seems like a small thing, but based on the first round of doing this on the fore and starboard decks, it eats up a ton of time.

Gone Sailing!

Time for a sail in my other boat (the one that actually sails right now).  Nice crispy new Intensity sails to bomb around on Somes Sound for a week.  Be back soon...
